This is a
pic of the Aberdeen fishing village in Hong Kong. It was taken on 24 May
1969. This was my first RR aboard the Higbee and if memory serves me, we'd
been on SAR and Fire Support missions in 'Nam for about 3 months. >>>

This is a picture of "Bosun" our German Shepard mascot
that was with us on my first Westpac. I don't remember whose dog he was, but
I do remember he was a pretty good "sea dog", although we had to have him
far below decks when we were firing the main guns. I'm sure some of the
other guys might have some good stories to tell about this dog, so I hope
you put this one out there for them to see. This picture was taken on 27
March 1969, in Sasebo, Japan. >>> Rob Boysen SN/YN 1968-70

This is a picture of me at the helm, taken on 4 May
1969. We were in Da Nang, South Vietnam for this one, and that's a time I'll
never forget. The first time we pulled into Da Nang, the Captain and a few
of the other brass got off the ship to attend a meeting at the "White
Elephant" (that's what they called it, but it must have been some sort of
command center there). In any case, while we were there, an arial "dog
fight" took place between one of our jets and a Mig. It was too close for
comfort for us, because we were underway right after our plane showed up.

Mail Call,
via an Army "Bumblebee". We loved seeing those birds! Picture taken on 20
May 1969.These little birds were a very welcome
sight when we were on SAR (Search and Rescue) or on Fire Support missions up
and down the Vietnamese coast. Whenever we'd see these "birds", it really
lifted all of our spirits! >>> Rob Boysen SN/YN 1968-70

Forward Gun Mount. I spent a lot of time during my
first Westpac in this mount and the After Gun Mount. Being a Seaman
Apprentice and assigned to the Weapons/Deck Division was lousy duty if you
ask me. Being in those mounts and doing KP duty for 3 months was enough to
convince me to become a YN/PN striker, but that didn't happen for me until
early in 1970

The Brass. From left to right: Lt. Moser, Chief Engineer; an unknown
civilian spectator; Lt. Holt (In Marine ball cap); Executive Officer, Lt.
Cmdr Bethel, and our Captain, Cmdr. Standard (on the phone). I think we were
doing underway replenishing.

This picture was actually taken
from inside of the Hanger Bay. It's a good picture of the Aft Gun mount with
our Hull number on the Flight Deck.
