NAVY, MARINE PLANES CONTINUE SYSTEMATIC AIR SIEGE OF KOREA

TOKYO, FEB.5 1950 (AP)--Planes of Task Force 77 ranged from Wonsan to Tanchon yesterday to continue the systematic siege of North Korea transportation to the daily summary of U.N. Naval operations. Skyraiders, Corsairs and Panther Jets from the Valley Forge and Antietam made more than 100 rail cuts. The Pachunjang area South of Hungnam hard hit by Valley Forge Shyraidres yesterday, was paid a return visit by VF 52 panther jets. The First Marine aircraft wing in Korea yesterday smashed the Eastern Front with a hail of bombs, rockets, and napalm. The “Death Rattlers”  squadron destroyed over 35 enemy bunkers and two command post in close air support strikes.

In addition the bent wing corsairs prowled over the ocean to sink two Communist boats. “Death Rattlers” also cut rail lines near Sinmak and knocked out bridges, revetments, supplies, four artillery positions, and one large personnel shelter. Panther jets concentrated on the rail line between Sinmak and Sariwon.”Wolfraider”s got 80 percent conerage against supply depots and vehicle revetments near Sohung and Sepo areas. They also attacked troops in a close support strike and made eight rail cuts near the town of Sinmak.

For the fourth straight day and night the Carrier USS Manchester, and the Destroyer USS Higbee continued to pound the North Korean and Chinese Communist front line position on the East coast of Korea.

The Destroyer USS Shields supported the Friendly Front lines with harassing and interdiction fire during darkness and call fire with the airspot during daylight.

At Wonson during daylight the USS Gregory fired on two buildings, while her sister USS Twining attacked  a factory and a large column of communist troops. The USS Halsey Powell conducted indirect and unobserved night firing off Hungnam. Ships of the Northern patrol continued to maul the coastal rail line in the vicinity of Sonjin.
